Listen now (65 mins) | Emma dives headlong into some playful chat, this week focusing on something that the whole world seems to have gone crazy for right now.…nostalgia! In a bid to understand more about this fascinating topic, Emma talks to Clay Routledge, PhD, who is the Vice President of Research and Director of the Human Flourishing Lab at the Archbridge Institute. Clay is also the co-editor of Profectus (a periodic magazine on human progress and flourishing), and the co-host of The Profectus Podcast. Clay shares insights from his new book Past Forward which explores compelling science and valuable practices for mindfully using nostalgia to live a more grounded, connected, and purposeful life
Yessss! Been waiting for this topic since you mentioned mentioned it several pods ago. I haven’t read the book. It’s been in my Amazon cart since Christmas 😂. Looking forward to this!
Just finished and as always, great content! Emma asking 👏 the 👏 hard👏 hitting👏questions! So many good bits that I will be taking into my every day life. There are a few memories that I love revisiting and sometimes they’re so good and wonderfully nostalgic that I fear I’ll replay it in mind too much? I need to just indulge and reap the rewards of that kind of thing. Anyway, such an encouraging convo in a way. I shall be enhancing my nostalgia in my life for sure!
I know exactly what you mean - longing can almost be scary in a way - like I want to go back so badly it hurts, but this made me think about it differently, thanks for tuning in and sharing your reflections! x
